Commis: A Celebratory Experience

February 19, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I’m celebrating my two year anniversary. It’s a two year anniversary of a relationship I have with food and writing. I’ve been writing a weekly food blog for two years. To celebrate, I was going all out. I dined with my BFF at the only Michelin star rated restaurant in the entire East Bay and...

Bay Wolf: A Highlight to Piedmont Avenue

February 12, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
Piedmont Avenue is a bustling neighborhood of trendy restaurants, coffee shops, etc. in Oakland. Piedmont Grocery, a neighborhood grocer has been there for over a hundred years and carries a few items that is hard to find elsewhere. Piedmont Avenue is also the street where Fentons Creamy is located. It’s been several years since I...

An Accidental Find: Mike’s Pastry, Boston

February 5, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I just returned from a quick trip to Boston. I had some really good food, but this blog post is my story of Mike’s Pastry. Firstly, someone is a marketing genius. I’m not sure if I found them or they found me. I was on the Freedom Trail when I saw someone walk by with...

Cafe Van Kleef: One Word…Greyhounds

January 29, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
Vodka was probably one of the first types of alcohol that I ever drank. I was all too familiar with the “screwdriver” which is vodka and orange juice. Growing up, I would watch my father make “screwdrivers” for himself and my mother. I think he even let me make some, for sure I got to...

Main Stop: Oakland Chinatown

January 22, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I was in Oakland Chinatown for the past two days preparing for Chinese New Year. This may be the most chaotic of all weekends. The community has to buy food and it is the Lunar New Year Bazaar. I acted as the chauffeur and the caddy for my mother yesterday as she went to various...

Food Club Visit: Kokkari

January 15, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I am now part of a food club that my BFF started. It’s very exclusive as there are only three members. We meet once a month and we take turns picking a restaurant. Last month was my turn and I picked Kokkari, the Greek restaurant in San Francisco. This is the sister restaurant of Evvia...

The Apple of My Eye: Addie’s Pizza Pie

January 8, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
Last night I went to Addie’s Pizza Pie in Berkeley. It was a return visit having gone there last month. The restaurant is in a nice space on the corner of Adeline and Alcatraz in South Berkeley. There are high ceilings and the acoustics are not so good, but this is a perfect place for...

New Year’s Day

January 1, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
Happy New Years! I’ve been attending the same New Years Party that my friends host for the past several years. I’ve also been coming to the house a day early to help with the festivities. This party is known as the pozole party because amongst other things, pozole is served. It’s always a great Mexican...

Hazelnuts and Pomegranate: Ingredients for Life

December 26, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
I recently found a great winter salad that has a great point value for Weight Watchers. It’s called a “Rainbow Chopped Salad” and it’s filled with plenty of fruits and vegetables. I learned a couple of things while making it. I learned how not to roast hazelnuts and I think I mastered how to seed...

Sol Food: Good for the Soul

December 18, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
It’s been several hours and I’m still thinking about the food I ate and the restaurant I ate at for lunch today. Although the restaurant is located in San Rafael, it reminds me of Puerto Rico. You can’t miss Sol Food with the bright lime green exterior. There’s a story there in itself. I’ll leave...

About Me

Hello, my name is Lisa Lau.  Welcome to my new website 510foodie.com.  I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I am passionate about food and am here to share my food adventures with you.

I’ve been blogging about food for almost ten years.  I am a contributing writer for localwise.com where my blog post Top Five Bowls of Noodle Soup in Oakland went viral.  In 2018, I was a guest writer for Berkeleyside where I wrote the featured article  A Filipino Food Movement is Sweeping the East Bay.

My friends and family enjoy my cooking so new to the site is “Recipe of the month.”

I hope you enjoy the site!
