You Don’t Have to Be a Crazy Rich Asian to Eat at Dragon Beaux

July 29, 2018 by 510foodie No Comments
I just got back from a very nice dinner in the City for my book club meeting. We read Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan and our meeting place was appropriately held at the fancy Chinese restaurant Dragon Beaux in the outer Richmond district of San Francisco. Dim Sum is usually eaten during brunch, but...

Plaj: Scandanavian Food at its Best

July 23, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
My friends and I bought our tickets to see the musical Hamilton last December. The seven month wait was finally over and we went to see Hamilton at the SHN Orpheum Theater in San Francisco last Saturday. It was such an amazing show of talent. Lin Manuel Miranda is a genius to be able to...

Hops & Hominy: A Hidden Gem

May 14, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
I had dinner with two of my coworkers in the City on Friday night at a restaurant called Hops & Hominy. It was my first visit to Hops & Hominy (H & H) so I was excited to try another restaurant serving Southern food. Although the restaurant is located in the popular Union Square, it’s...

Petit Crenn: One for the Books

November 13, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
Women and girls all over the Country were disappointed this week that the highest and hardest glass ceiling did not break. In the restaurant industry, women are continuing to fight this battle. Just a few weeks ago, Michelin Stars were announced and some observations were made that Atelier Crenn, Dominique Crenn’s fine dining restaurant in...

How I Got to Cook with Chef Marcus Samuelsson

October 23, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
Chef Marcus Samuelsson just released his new cookbook The Red Rooster Cookbook, named after his restaurant in Harlem. With this release began his cookbook tour with the first stop in the Bay Area. I signed up to get tickets to his cooking demonstration held at Macy’s in Union Square in San Francisco. The department store...

Dumpling Empire: A Taste of Shanghai

August 14, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
photo by Donna HuiIt was this photo from my friend @cwpiequeen that lured me to try Dumpling Empire, located in South San Francisco. This is a dish of green onion pancake, a popular savory snack from Shanghai. When the batter is cooked, it turns into thin flakey layers filled with a depth of onion flavor....

New Lun Ting Cafe: An Ode to my Father

April 10, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
I took some time off from writing for the past month after my father passed away. It was a much needed break. This post is dedicated to my dad who was born and raised in San Francisco. He was a product of San Francisco Chinatown. He worked and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. The...

F.O.B. Kitchen: A Filipino Pop Up

September 13, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
F.O.B. Kitchen has been popping up in a couple of locations in the Mission District of San Francisco. I crossed the Bay Bridge yesterday to have brunch at this pop up. F.O.B. Kitchen serves quality Filipino food. My understanding is that they do regular dinner service on Wednesdays and have had a few of these...

Dol Ho(le in the wall)

August 16, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Dol Ho in San Francisco Chinatown is the epitome of a hole in the wall. Every table could potentially become a community table, as I watched customers squeeze themselves in. My friend sat next to me, but strangers sat across from us. Dol Ho is probably one of the last few dim sum restaurants that...

Epic Roasthouse: Not Quite Epic, But Certainly Worth A Visit

December 21, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
Last week I had my holiday luncheon for work. It really is the highlight of the year as we venture out to the City and have a great meal. Every year we are fortunate and get to go somewhere really nice. This is actually the third year we have gone to Epic Roasthouse, probably because...

About Me

Hello, my name is Lisa Lau.  Welcome to my new website 510foodie.com.  I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I am passionate about food and am here to share my food adventures with you.

I’ve been blogging about food for almost ten years.  I am a contributing writer for localwise.com where my blog post Top Five Bowls of Noodle Soup in Oakland went viral.  In 2018, I was a guest writer for Berkeleyside where I wrote the featured article  A Filipino Food Movement is Sweeping the East Bay.

My friends and family enjoy my cooking so new to the site is “Recipe of the month.”

I hope you enjoy the site!
