October 2, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
I’m currently wrapping up my trip to San Antonio. My BFF and I head back to Austin in the morning. We’ve spent a day and a half touring the area and eating great food. This is my first time to San Antonio and I am surprised by how much I like it. The weather has...

Seattle’s Best and I’m Not Talking Coffee Part II

September 25, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
If I lived in Seattle, I would have a lot to write about. My four days on holiday in Seattle were full of great places to eat. I could write about Russian Piroshki at Piroshky Piroshky, chowder at Pike Place Chowder, or one of the seven stops we made during our gourmet food tour by...

Seattle’s Best and I’m Not Talking Coffee Part I

September 18, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
Last week a friend of mine and I took a four day trip to Seattle, Washington. They say August and September are the best months to visit. We had planned to see some Dale Chihuly art, watch a Mariners game, and eat, of course! Eat is what we did and we did it well. Seattle...

The Basque Experience: JT In Gardnerville

July 24, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
I’ve never been to Basque Country which is the coastal area between Spain and France, but last night had an interesting and fun experience with Basque food. We were only thirty minutes away from Gardnerville, Nevada where a few Basque restaurants are located. We planned to go to JT Basque Bar and Dining Room. Walking...

Stonefly: Where Everybody Knows Your Name

June 26, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
I’m hanging out in Markleeville, California for a long weekend to do some scenic hikes and get some R&R. My friends have a cabin up here and I jump at the opportunity to visit. Markleeville is in Alpine County which is Southeast of Lake Tahoe and has a population of about 200. Its claim to...

Three Days in Indy, Three Sandwiches

April 24, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
I had a couple of meals planned for my trip to Indianapolis.  I did some research ahead of time as well as emailed a couple of locals.  It was by total accident that I discovered Shapiro’s Deli.  A colleague of mine and I had taken a grounds tour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and had...

Nashville Highlights: Part III

March 13, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
While in Nashville, my BFF and I took a road trip to Lynchburg, Tennessee to take a tour of the Jack Daniel’s distillery.  She’s a Scotch drinker and had wanted to go.  I had read some reviews of the tour ahead of time and was looking forward to it.  The drive was a bit over...

Nashville Highlights: Part II

March 9, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
Memphis is known to have some of the best bbq in the world. Being that I was three hours away from Memphis, it didn’t look likely I would get any Memphis style bbq on this trip.  Lucky for me, I found that one of the three bbq joints opened by Pat and Gina Neely was...

Nashville Highlights: Part I

March 7, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
I just got back from Tennessee late last night and spent most of my time in Nashville.  Southern comfort food was on my radar while I was in Nashville.  My very first meal was dinner at Monnell’s.  This restaurant is located in a beautiful Victorian building located in historic Germantown.  There are three dining rooms...

Celebrating a Birthday the Chinese Way

November 15, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
Food symbolizes a lot in the Chinese culture.  When a family is celebrating the birth of a child, they throw a red egg and ginger party.  When a couple gets married, the most important part of the festivities is the wedding banquet.  When the elderly reach milestone birthdays, their families give them a birthday banquet. ...
