One Ingredient Banana Ice Cream and Chocolate Syrup

February 1, 2020 by 510foodie No Comments
I used to give away my ripe bananas because I grew tired of making banana bread. Last year my friend told me I could make banana ice cream with just a ripe banana. I didn’t need an ice cream maker, just a food processor. I didn’t believe her. She told me to freeze the banana...

Teni East Kitchen: Fresh California Burmese

December 11, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
Teni East Kitchen is a newish Burmese restaurant located in North Oakland that opened this past May.  With a focus on Burmese, it has a California twist.  I had my first lunch here in October and went back for dinner in November. It can be fun to be one of the first to discover a...

Double Belly is Double Trouble

October 16, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
First came Belly and then came Sweet Belly. In Uptown Oakland, you can find this pair of playful eateries to fill your belly. Belly is located at the corner of San Pablo Avenue and 19th Street and serves up what I consider a fusion grill. There is a focus on Mexican, Korean, and Japanese cuisine....

Gunther’s: Good Old Fashioned Ice Cream

September 25, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
It’s so hot today that I don’t feel like doing much and all I feel like eating is ice cream. Actually, I had Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia for dinner. It was perfectly refreshing. Having this flavor reminded me of the recent road trip home from Reno with my nieces and nephew. We stopped in...

Hike, Lunch, Hike, Ice Cream: My Kind of Day

July 4, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
One of my favorite things to do is hike and I feel fortunate to live where I do and have access to the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD). EBRPD operates 65 parks that cover more than 120K acres and includes over 1,250 miles of trails that run through Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.  courtesy...

Touring Oakland’s Rockridge Neighborhood

February 22, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Last Thursday I attended the Rockridge Food Tour. It was a tour for “media only.” There were a couple of us that have non-media related jobs and do this on the side for fun. I was in awe that most of these people get paid to eat, but I was happy to be able to...

Taro Root Ice Cream: Western Flare to an Eastern Celebration

September 7, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
Tonight my family had a traditional Chinese dinner to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Taro, a root vegetable grown in various parts of the world is a typical ingredient that is eaten for this occasion. Taro is said to bring good luck and wealth. I can always use both luck and fortune so I decided...

Ice Cream Filled Donut: The New Craze?

August 17, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
Last weekend, my friends and I spent the weekend in Lake Tahoe. On our drive home, we stopped in Sacramento to a shop called The Parlor for what could possibly be the newest craze. The Parlor calls the snack an Ice Cream Puff, which is basically a donut that is split open and stuffed with...

Best of Paris

August 3, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
One of the first things my friends and I did almost every morning in Paris was to walk and explore a new boulangerie to try their croissants. By Day 3, we already found the best croissant and the best baguette, not without help. One of my friends put together a five page document with recommendations...

Bi-Rite: More than Alright

October 30, 2011 by 510foodie No Comments
Located in the Mission District in San Francisco is a food market, a creamery and bakeshop, a catering company, operators of organic farms, and a community education center that make up the Bi-Rite family of businesses. Their mission is to create community through food. I’ve been visiting Bi-rite creamery for a while and especially love...
