Juhu Beach Club Revisited

February 28, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
I typically don’t write about the same place twice, but since I’ve been writing for six years, I can see from time to time the need to revisit. Today I went to the Indian restaurant Juhu Beach Club (JBC) in Oakland for weekend brunch. (Read my previous post about Juhu Beach Club.) I convinced a friend...

Aztecali: My Latest Addiction

February 21, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
It was Chef Dominica Rice of Cosecha posting a picture of three tacos on Instagram that brought me to Aztecali, a new Mexican restaurant in Oakland. If it’s good enough for Chez Panisse trained Chef Dominica, it’s definitely good enough for me. The owners Juana and Claudia opened up this small neighborhood establishment close to...

Soup du Jour: Vietnamese Style

January 31, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
I recently heard about Cafe Kim Thuy, a Vietnamese restaurant in East Oakland. What is different about Cafe Kim Thuy is that they specialize in one noodle soup each day of the week. I went on a Friday when they were serving Bun Cha Ca, a fish cake noodle soup popular in Da Nang. I...

Venga Paella for Oakland Restaurant Week

January 24, 2016 by 510foodie No Comments
Today wraps up the sixth annual Oakland Restaurant Week (ORW). For the past ten days, restaurants throughout Oakland encouraged people to dine in our foodie town by offering special menus at fixed prices. I think it’s a great opportunity to try a new restaurant that you have been wanting to try. With close to 75...

Lin Jia Kitchen: Quality Chinese Food

December 21, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Growing up in a Chinese American home, I eat a lot of Chinese food. My mom regularly cooks it and I sometimes cook it. Often, we go out to eat Chinese food. Most Chinese restaurants in Chinatowns have delicious, cheap food. Most of the time you don’t know where the food is coming from which...

Star on Grand: Pizza You Want to Know

December 6, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
The first time I dined at Star on Grand, a pizzeria near Lake Merritt in Oakland, it was over two years ago when they first opened. I was with my best friend and we shared one pizza. I remember thinking that it was really good, but I would have to go back to explore more...

Ahn’s Burger: Back in Business

November 29, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
After being closed for about eight months, Ahn’s Quarter Pound Burger on Grand Avenue in Oakland recently reopened for business. I used to frequent this greasy burger joint for many years. I missed the smell of french fries being cooked at Ahn’s during my walks around Lake Merritt. I remember when the scent would...

Clove & Hoof: Hog Heaven

November 8, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
I finally made my way to Clove & Hoof for dinner last month with two friends. Located on Broadway street in North Oakland, Clove & Hoof is a butchery and restaurant. While we had to wait about ten minutes to be seated, we spent that time wisely touring the business. I was in what you...
