Parlour: More than Pizza

April 12, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
The opening of Parlour has been a long anticipated wait for me.  It’s located in Uptown Oakland a block and a half from where I work.  Imagine the suspense of knowing a new restaurant is going to open up in your neighborhood and they are remodeling the space.  The entire front entry is made of...

Chilli Padi: Oakland’s One and Only Malaysian Restaurant

March 22, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
I still recall my first experience eating Malaysian food.  It was back in the year 1999 when I lived in New York City.  I made friends who introduced me to Nyonya.  My last visit to New York was less than two years ago, but I still made a point to get take out from Nyonya...

Tian Jin Dumplings: A Special Hole in the Wall

March 1, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
A “hole in the wall” is a small and unpretentious place often used to describe restaurants.  Tian Jin Dumplings in Oakland Chinatown is literally a hole in the wall.  You stick your face in front of a window (hole) and order your food for take out.  My coworker and I have been meaning to go...

Touring Oakland’s Rockridge Neighborhood

February 22, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Last Thursday I attended the Rockridge Food Tour. It was a tour for “media only.” There were a couple of us that have non-media related jobs and do this on the side for fun. I was in awe that most of these people get paid to eat, but I was happy to be able to...

Running for ten days, Oakland Restaurant Week ended tonight. It was the opportunity to experience Oakland restaurants offering pre-fix lunches and dinners at special pricing. My friend chose Hutch Bar & Kitchen in Uptown and she made a last minute reservation for three of us. The focus of Hutch is Southern food. The special pre-fix...

Camber: Bringing Exotic Flavors to Uptown and Montclair

January 11, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Camber in Uptown Oakland is a cool hip restaurant serving delicious South East Asian food. It’s located close to where I work and I can’t believe I didn’t learn about it until recently since it’s been around for about two years. The owners are Irfan, who is part Burmese and part Pakistani and Linda who...

Authentic French in Oakland: Michel Bistro

December 14, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
I have passed the French restaurant Michel Bistro (MB) on Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland many times. I remember stopping once and looking at the dinner menu and continuing to walk on by. The menu was short and had maybe one or two things I would consider ordering. Today we had book club to discuss The...

Popping up in Oakland: Pop Sandwich

Pop Sandwich is a one man shop creating sandwiches in the back of a convenience store in the Uptown district of Oakland. Penrose: A Triple Threat

November 23, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
First he brought us Pizzaiola, next he brought us Boot and Shoe Service, and then Charlie Hallowell brought Penrose to Oakland. A16 in Rockridge Rocks

November 9, 2014 by 510foodie No Comments
Last Sunday was the start of birthday celebrations for me. My close friend, sister, and I had a pretty late reservation for dinner especially considering the time change that just went into effect. We took a chance and arrived two hours earlier to A16 hoping for an earlier seating. The hostess was accommodating and arranged...
