Bahn Mi Me

October 31, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
What is a bahn mi?  A bahn mi is the Vietnamese version of a po’ boy.   These sandwiches are filled with a choice of meat and tons of goodies.  The french roll is filled with vegetables that include a mixture of pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeno peppers.  The most popular bahn mi...

Charmed in Baltimore

October 24, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
I had a blast last weekend in Baltimore and the highlight was the Charm City Food Tour that a friend a mine had recommended.  Walking around learning about a neighborhood and eating good food?  Sign me up!  I had originally wanted to go on the Fells Point Tour, but it was sold out.  I signed...

This Weeks Crab War: Dungeness vs. Blue

October 18, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
Iron Chef Michael Symon just started a new show called Food Feuds where he goes to restaurants in a region that claim to have the best of something.  This blog is my attempt to do something similar.  Who does crab better?  East Coast or West Coast?  One of the most well known and popular places...

Popovers: Serve Them at Anytime of Day

October 10, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
After having dinner at Wayfare Tavern a few weeks ago, I was inspired to make popovers.  Popovers are light hollow rolls made from an egg batter.  I’ve only been served these at dinnertime, but I think breakfast is a great time to serve them.  I had an occasion to make them.  I was in charge...

In My New Hood: Bellanico

October 3, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
I moved to the Glenview district about a month ago and I absolutely love it.  Glenview is a small quiet community with a commercial district that spans a few blocks.   The district has various businesses including notable restaurants.  I have been wanting to go to the Italian restaurant Bellanico since they opened about two years...

One of Oakland’s Best: Tamarindo

September 19, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
If I am asked to name the top restaurants of Oakland, Tamarindo is in my top five.  If I am asked to name the best Mexican restaurant, Tamarindo is number one.   The Mexican tapas “small plates” restaurant is located in Old Oakland, and brings sophistication to simple Mexican food. A group of four of us...

The Wayfare Tavern, San Francisco

September 13, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
After having dinner at Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco, I am now in love with celebrity chef Tyler Florence.  He is the star to several Food Network shows, but I never thought too much of him before this.  Maybe I was unimpressed because he was the spokesperson to Applebee’s.   Anyhow, my BFF (Best Friend Forever),...

My Favorite Taco Truck

September 6, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
How far would you drive to get to a taco truck?  Some might think 14 miles is too far considering there are dozens of taco trucks within a few miles away in Oakland.  My BFF introduced me to this particular taco truck in the City of San Pablo a few years ago.  We plan hikes...

Eat Real Festival, Oakland

August 30, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
The smell of food is in the air and you can’t avoid it when you’re at the Eat Real Festival in Jack London Square in Oakland.  This weekend was the second annual event.  The tagline for the Eat Real Festival is “Putting the food back in fast,” meaning you don’t have to give up quality...

Hello, my name is Lisa Lau.  Welcome to my new website 510foodie.com.  I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I am passionate about food and am here to share my food adventures with you.

I’ve been blogging about food for almost ten years.  I am a contributing writer for localwise.com where my blog post Top Five Bowls of Noodle Soup in Oakland went viral.  In 2018, I was a guest writer for Berkeleyside where I wrote the featured article  A Filipino Food Movement is Sweeping the East Bay.

My friends and family enjoy my cooking so new to the site is “Recipe of the month.”

I hope you enjoy the site!
