East Bay Eats The Cronut is a half croissant and half donut hybrid that was developed by Chef Dominique Ansel for his bakery in New York City. From my understanding, fans are lining up for four hours to buy a Cronut. It has become so popular that Chef Ansel trademarked the name and knockoffs of this pastry are...

After dinner last night in the Grandlake area of Oakland, my BFF and I were walking around contemplating dessert options. We walked into the newly opened Ordinaire, Oakland’s newest wine shop. Ordinaire had just officially opened two days ago, on Thursday. We reviewed the menu on the chalkboard, checked out the selection of wine bottles...

One of my favorite places for food and drinks is a restaurant just one block from me in the Glenview neighborhood. Rumbo Al Sur means “heading south” and brings the vibrant flavors of Latin America to Oakland. I remember the anticipation I had when Rumbo opened its doors in my neighborhood almost two years ago....

It was six years ago when I was in San Juan, Puerto Rico (PR) with my BFF. It was a great trip because we had friends that took us around and made us feel like locals. Those memories reappear when I am near the Borinquen Soul Food Truck. It’s a food truck straight out of...

I love the fact that Oakland has a fairly large Vietnamese community because I enjoy eating Vietnamese food. The cuisine varies so much, I usually can find something on the menu that will hit the spot. I recently was introduced to Bun Mam Soc Trang, a Vietnamese restaurant two miles south of me in East...

By following fellow foodie friends on Yelp, I can learn about places to eat that I may otherwise not know about. This is how I found out about Hang Ten Boiler (HTB) in Alameda. HTB serves two types of cuisine that initially may not sound like a good mix, but it provides options. HTB serves...

You can find tons of taco trucks up and down International Boulevard in Oakland, but some that stick out are the ones from Taqueria Sinaloa. I went to Taqueria Sinaloa with a friend and my niece for a light lunch one Sunday afternoon. The north side of the parking lot has the truck that serves...

Located in an Industrial area in West Oakland, Fusebox is a small Fusion restaurant with a blend of mostly Korean and Japanese foods. Fusebox is one of my BFF’s new favorite places and I found out why when I took her for a belated birthday dinner on Friday. We were first offered a couple of...

Who would have thought to top a pizza with Indian curry? There is actually a name for it. It’s called Desi style. Pizza and Curry is a little hole in the wall in a strip mall in the City of Fremont that serves such a thing. My book club met for dinner this evening. Although...

My last book club meeting was held at Homeroom in the Lake Temescal neighborhood of Oakland. We were looking for a place that serves comfort food, so Homeroom was a good choice as they specialize in one of the most comforting American foods…macaroni and cheese. Last year I sampled Homeroom’s garlic mac and cheese at...
