Drip Line: West Oakland

March 20, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
Last week I attended a dinner with fifteen other Bay Area social media bloggers and influencers at a new coffee shop and restaurant called Drip Line. Drip Line is located in a part of town that I honestly don’t frequent without a purpose, West Oakland. Chef Nora Dunning has created a menu that reflects a...

Starbread: Queen of “Señorita Bread”

March 12, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
A friend of mine introduced me to a Filipino bun called “señorita bread.” She gave me a sampling of the rolls and my first reaction was “it’s alright.” It wasn’t very memorable. I didn’t understand her excitement about them. A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I were at a strip mall in Newark...

Baking Chouquettes

March 5, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
About two months ago, I wrote about a small neighborhood bakery on Grand Avenue in Oakland called La Parisienne. This was the bakery that introduced me to chouquettes. I thought to myself, if I could get a hold of pearl sugar, I would consider making these.   My colleague and I were talking about pearl...

Best Xiao Long Bao in East Bay

February 26, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
I am super excited to share a recent discovery of delicious xiao long bao in the East Bay. Din Ding Dumpling House is located in the City of Fremont. It is still a bit of a trek, but at least for me, I don’t have to cross a bridge to get there. I have made...

Goodnight Hawker Fare Oakland

February 19, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
The East Bay community is saying goodbye to Hawker Fare in Uptown Oakland, which closed its doors last night after almost six years. Hawker Fare is Chef James Syhabout’s Southeast Asian street food focused restaurant. I was able to dine at Hawker Fare on one of its final nights last week with a friend and...

Sunday Funday in Napa County

February 12, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
Today I took a trip to Napa County with friends. We weren’t going wine tasting, but had planned to hike Mount Saint Helena. Hiking up five miles on the Stevenson Memorial Trail would take us over 4,000 feet to St. Helena’s peak.   With so much rain and lack of exercise lately, the hike was...

ABC Cocina: New York City

February 5, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
When my friend and I got back to New York City after the Women’s March, we went “out on the town”. That may be a bit dramatic; we went to have a late night dinner. But it is a trendy restaurant, so I think that still counts. We headed to ABC Cocina, a tapas style...

Thirty Minute Omakase: New York City

January 29, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
Before going on a trip, I usually do a lot of research and draft a list of eateries I want to try and then I make a few reservations. This was not the case on my trip to the East Coast last week. The main reason I was traveling was to March on Washington. I...

510foodie Marches on Washington

January 22, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
shortbread cookie from Duane Park Pattiserie  I along with millions of Americans were disappointed in the election results. It was shocking and unexpected that the candidate that spewed out so much hate would be President of the United States of America.   Shortly after the election, my friend in New York asked me to March...

Celebrating a Year in Oakland: La Parisienne

January 15, 2017 by 510foodie No Comments
La Parisienne is a cute, bright French bakery located on Grand Avenue in Oakland. It celebrated a one-year anniversary this weekend.  When you walk into La Parisienne, you are confronted with a display of artful desserts. When you follow the window display down the side, you will find many other French baked goods. Part patisserie...
