Post Backpacking Meal: The Farm Table in Placerville

July 6, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
I just got back from a four day backpacking trip on a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) starting from Sonora Pass to Ebbetts Pass, which is roughly 31 miles. My fitbit tells me I hiked about 40 miles!      This was a daunting experience as I am coming back super tired. This...

DIY: Cooking Copper River Salmon

June 28, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
My first experience with Copper River Salmon was about three years ago at a sushi restaurant. This very seasonal salmon is filled with Omega 3’s and is very tasty. My understanding is that the adult Sockeye Salmon are ready to spawn and head to the fresh waters of the Copper River in Alaska and fatten...

Taiwan Bento: Uptown Lunch Spot

June 21, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
I remember walking by Taiwan Bento in the Uptown District of Oakland with a coworker many months ago. The restaurant was not open at the time and there was a sign at the door indicating they were having soft openings. I peaked through the window to check out their menu board. It was a very...

The Gourmet Backpacking Trip

June 14, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Backpacking has been something on my bucket list and my friends agreed to take me during the July 4 weekend. In preparation for it, we did a test run this weekend in the High Sierra. We began in the Mokelumne Wilderness on Saturday and made our way through Thornburg Canyon into the town of Markleeville...

The One and Only Country Bar in Oakland: Overland

June 7, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
The entire Bay Area is cheering on the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. After all, it’s been forty years. I’ve been catching the games anywhere I can, but my favorite place to watch has been the new Overland Country Bar and Grill in Jack London Square in Oakland. It’s located in what my...

Mastering Peruvian 101

May 31, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Last weekend was another brilliant themed cooking dinner party! To tell the truth, when the theme of Peruvian food first came up, I was a bit skeptical because I was unfamiliar with the cuisine. As I looked online for recipes to make, I saw a lot of seafood recipes. I love seafood, but I don’t...

Revival Bar & Kitchen: Downtown Berkeley

May 24, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
On a recent weekday night, I had dinner with a friend at Revival Bar & Kitchen in Downtown Berkeley. It was our first time dining there, but we both knew we had been to this location before. Revival has been there for about five years, but before that it was a Restaurant called Downtown.  ...

Be Greek for a Day: Oakland Greek Festival

May 17, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
This weekend is the Oakland Greek Festival, an annual festival held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the Oakland Hills.   I am embarrassed to say that this is my first year attending even though it’s been held in my hometown for 43 years!   If you look to the East and into the...

Fist of Flour Doughjo: Ain’t No Martial Arts Studio

May 10, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
Fist of Flour Pizza Company launched in 2010 as a food truck. At the time, it rented a kitchen in Berkeley to conduct all their food prep. In January 2014, they opened what they call a “Doughjo” on the corner of MacArthur and Maybelle Street in the Laurel District of Oakland. Fist of Flour Doughjo...

Plan to Go: Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

May 3, 2015 by 510foodie No Comments
I’m at the Burbank airport waiting for my extremely delayed flight. Instead of being negative, I am reflecting on my favorite meal of the weekend in Los Angeles. Hands down it was dinner on Friday evening at Plan Check Kitchen + Bar. It’s not a fancy restaurant, but a gastropub in the Beverly Grove, a...
