Blue Oak Cafe: Inside Oakland’s Museum

October 28, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
It has been over a year since the Oakland Museum of California went through a major renovation. Today it is much more modern. Although it has kept its extensive California History exhibit, it has brought in some great exhibits. When they reopened in 2011, they brought the fun Pixar exhibit. Today, they have the 1968...

Watching MLB Around Oakland

October 21, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
It’s been a fun month of baseball in the Bay Area. Watching the Oakland Athletics win the American League West Division and the San Francisco Giants one game away from the World Series has been truly exciting. What makes baseball fun to watch is having people around you to help cheer on your team with...

Hibiscus Cafe: Offering Up Some Of The Best Fried Chicken

October 14, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
My BFF and I were craving fried chicken recently and we actually planned ahead for it. We had been to a Southern food restaurant called Hibiscus awhile back, but not too long ago it reopened as Hibiscus Cafe. Hibiscus is located on San Pablo Ave in Uptown Oakland. The Cafe reopened with a limited menu...

Speisekammer: Celebrating Octoberfest

October 7, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I have been changing up my walking patterns lately and last Sunday hit Alameda beach. For an early dinner I thought it would be nice to go to Speisekammer Restaurant and Bar since we were in the neighborhood. My friend had never been to Speisekammer and it’s been awhile since my last visit. Speisekammer was...

Happy Mooncake Day!

September 30, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
Today is the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, a Chinese holiday which lands on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Lunar Calendar. It is always a bright full moon. What does my family do for this holiday? My answer is usually “have dinner together”. My family actually celebrated last night. There was a bit...

The Las Vegas Buffet: Did I Get My Monies Worth?

September 23, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I am not a big fan of buffets. Most buffets serve average food and buffet goers hope to eat more than their monies worth. In Las Vegas, buffets are pretty popular at every hotel. It seems there is always one that shines each decade. In the 1990’s, it was the Rio’s Carnival World Buffet and...

The Waterbar: Worth a Visit on a Nice Day

September 16, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
One of the biggest reasons I choose to live in Oakland over San Francisco is because it is typically at least ten degrees warmer in Oakland. But on the occasion when the fog is clear and the sun is beaming, I would wish to be no where else than San Francisco. We had one of...

In LA: The Sycamore Kitchen

September 9, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
I was in Los Angeles two weeks ago and made a point to have lunch at the Sycamore Kitchen. I found out about this place by following the tweets of food critic Jonathan Gold. He was really tweeting about the potato chips. If you know me, I love me some potato chips. Put a chocolate...

Porto’s Bakery and Cafe

September 2, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
One of my favorite flights is the Southwest Airlines flight from Oakland to Burbank. I like it because it is one of the shortest flights. You are in the air for about fifty minutes. The flight attendants are funny. Both airports are small and that makes getting in and out fairly simple. I like the...

State Bird Provisions: It’s Hot

August 26, 2012 by 510foodie No Comments
My Food Companion (FC) moved back to New York earlier this year. On his recent visit to San Francisco, I had to suggest a new place to dine. It had to be good. It had to be trendy. It had to be the “it” place. I had something in mind. State Bird Provisions was on...

About Me

Hello, my name is Lisa Lau.  Welcome to my new website 510foodie.com.  I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I am passionate about food and am here to share my food adventures with you.

I’ve been blogging about food for almost ten years.  I am a contributing writer for localwise.com where my blog post Top Five Bowls of Noodle Soup in Oakland went viral.  In 2018, I was a guest writer for Berkeleyside where I wrote the featured article  A Filipino Food Movement is Sweeping the East Bay.

My friends and family enjoy my cooking so new to the site is “Recipe of the month.”

I hope you enjoy the site!
