Pig Tales: My Adventures in Pork

June 6, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
This tale is an ode to bacon. I remember when bacon was just something you had as a side for breakfast.  These days it is more than just a complementary food.  Bacon is now king!  Bacon is so popular that you can even purchase a subscription to the Bacon of the Month Club.  Dynamo Donuts...

Grilled Corn, Mexican Style: Elote Asado

May 30, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
It is Memorial Day weekend and many Americans are barbecuing.  Corn is in season and made me recall a memory I had many years ago.  I was on International Blvd. in Oakland at a food stand.   At the time, I don’t even think it was called International Blvd., just E14th Street.  The name changed in 1996. ...

Amber India on Santana Row

May 23, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
I heart Santana Row in San Jose.  It’s like Disneyland for those that love to shop and eat.  The weather is generally great and reminds you that you are definitely in sunny California.  I’ve enjoyed dining in this area throughout the years –  From Pinkberry, Pluto’s, and Pizza Antica to Village California Bistro, Blowfish Sushi...

Fish in Sausalito. Don’t forget to bring cash.

May 16, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
A visit to my friend who recently moved to Sausalito meant a visit to Fish.  This restaurant overlooks the marina.  The restaurant is casual where you go to the counter, order your food, pay by cash, get a placard with a number, pick up your own silverware, find a seat, and someone delivers your food. ...

Dim Sum: A Small Piece of Heart

May 9, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
Today is Mother’s Day and I wanted to write about Dim Sum.  Dim Sum is a Cantonese cuisine that is typically eaten as weekend brunch.  There are countless varieties of bite sized food that are either sweet or savory and steamed or fried.  Another way to say dim sum in Chinese is “yum cha” which...

Taste of the Nation, San Francisco

May 2, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
This past week I attended Taste of the Nation in San Francisco.  This event travels nationwide to raise money for Share Our Strength, an organization to end childhood hunger.  A ticket costs $85 or $140 and gives you access to unlimited tastings of food and drinks from local restaurants, wineries, and mixologists.  Although I find...

Cholita Linda at Jack London Square

April 26, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
What is Cholita Linda?  If my name were Webster, I would define Cholita Linda as the vendor at the Jack London Square farmer’s market serving up the best fish tacos.  Jack London Square (JLS) is one of the coolest places in Oakland.   You can enjoy Jazz Music, catch a movie, have a good meal, shop...

Point Reyes/Tomales Bay, California

April 18, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
Earlier this month, Michael Bauer posted his Top 100 Best Restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area. Osteria Stellina (opened in November 2008) in Point Reyes Station made the list and forced another restaurant Nick’s Cove in Tomales Bay about 2 miles North off the list. I spent the weekend in the beautiful Point Reyes...

Best of Sacramento: Biba Restaurant

April 10, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
On my way to Lake Tahoe, my friend and I stopped off at Biba Restaurant in Sacramento.  This is my third time dining at Biba, but my first time having lunch there.  Biba is rated the best Italian restaurant in the area and receives lots of praise from various food magazines.  They have been running...

Chicago: Martini, Sushi, and Yakitori

April 4, 2010 by 510foodie No Comments
I spent the last several days in the windy city, but boy was it warm.  It was nice to leave the April showers of California to a not so normal temperature of mid to high 70’s in Chicago.  Chicago is a great city.  It’s a beautiful place with tall buildings, interesting architecture, and great food. ...
